Through the Fear

Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, “Do you think to yourself that in the king’s palace you will escape any more than all the other Jews. For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:13-14)

Esther’s position in King Ahasuerus (also known by his Greek name, King Xerxes) left her uncertain and fearful. Her people were being persecuted within the kingdom, purposefully sought after by Haman, an official in the king’s palace. She needed someone she trusted to come alongside her and encourage her to the point of conviction. Her cousin, Mordecai, spoke directly through the cloud of Esther’s confusion. He states that her life has brought her to this very moment. She has a decision to make. She can cower in fear of approaching the king, or she can step out in faith to protect her people. It was time to act!

Esther chose to surrender herself for the lives of her people. She pushed through the fear and acted. Her approach required discernment and planning. It was a game of chess, and she willingly called checkmate on Haman.

Do you find yourself in a position of influence but fear speaking up? Maybe you doubt your abilities or knowledge, assuming others will judge you by what you say or do. Has your voice been stifled for so long that you do not know what it sounds like anymore? Maybe your confidence has been trampled on, and you find it easier to live in the shadows.

Well, here’s your call to action! God created you for such a time as this! You were created with a voice and for a purpose. Standing up for what is right takes confidence, but it only comes from God. It requires His insight, wisdom, and understanding. You were meant for more. You can make a positive impact in the lives of others. He will guide your steps. Trust Him.

Prayer: Lord, Jesus is the example we must ultimately follow. He carried His cross and died for all of mankind. He knew His life was for such as time as this. We ask that you grant us Your wisdom and discernment, Your strength and courage. Help us to find our voice as Esther did and speak Your Truth into the lives of others. May we set our fears aside to do Your Will, standing for what is right in the midst of judgment. May our lives bring You honor and glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
