The Battle for the Mind: Standing Firm in Spiritual Warfare

For our struggle is not with flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms, (Ephesians 6:12).

A church is in turmoil. Its leaders are divided, and sexual perversion, adultery, and unholy agendas are allowed. The outside world is also in turmoil, with political unrest, war, and the persecution of truth everywhere. This is what Paul’s letters tell us was happening in the early church. Oh, wait, did you think I was describing what we are living through today? Why has nothing changed? Simply put, the enemy’s tactics have not changed, so why would the narrative?

It is not about you. The war is about power and dominion, and you are a mere pawn to the Prince of Darkness. When Jesus humbled himself, both God and man walked the earth. When he took the sins of this world to the cross, a war began: the spiritual powers of evil were engaged, and a war for eternal life was unleashed.

The battle Paul warned against is the same battle we fight today, and its weapons are not of this world. As 2 Corinthians 10:4 says, “For the weapons we fight with are not weapons of this world.” Instead, these weapons have divine power to demolish strongholds. The battle is not over the material things of this world. It is over our minds: the deception we allow to seep into our lives, the compromise that becomes habit, and the anger that becomes brokenness. The weapons used are lies that keep us from stepping into the truth God intended for us and deception that leaves us paralyzed and unable to fully live out the plan God intended. To win this battle, we must first realize that it is not about us. It is about Jesus and the redeeming power of the cross. The veil was torn, and a battle was set in motion that the enemy cannot win.

We must step forward with full knowledge, ready for battle, always aware of the darkness that surrounds us and fully aware of the power within us that has already won the battle. When we declare God’s truth over our lives, no weapon formed under the deception of evil will prevail.

Prayer: Father, we know the battle is not ours and that we fight a war not of this world. Father, protect us, guide us, and direct our steps. Cover us in Your armor, and give us the discernment, wisdom, and courage to fight the lies and see Your goodness and grace in all we do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
