Light Up the Darkness

… even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you, (Psalm 139:11-12).

Pitch black. Our eyes cannot adjust because there is no light piercing through the darkness. We open our eyes wider, but our vision is corrupted by the absence of light. We cannot see our surroundings. We just cannot see.

We have all experienced moments in our lives when we’ve been faced with darkness, a limited ability to see. Our vision, obscured by pain, loneliness, anger, rejection, or loss, is restricted. The darkness closes in and envelops us, triggering fear and anxiety to settle into our space, causing us to doubt if we will ever be able to find our way out of the abyss.

David, a man after God’s own heart, expressed similar emotions while entrenched in darkness. Guilt, shame, grief, and fear enveloped him, drowning out the light and joy from his life. During those times, David was reminded of God’s closeness. Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? (Ps. 139:7).

No matter how we feel, God is always near. He carries us through the void, shining in the darkness because He is the Light of the World. He sees what we cannot and guides where our footing is uncertain.

“If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,’ even the darkness is not dark to You; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with You,” (Ps. 139:11-12).

In times of darkness, drawing near to God is a necessity. When one of our sisters in Christ is struggling, we are to come together. We fight on her behalf, piercing the darkness with His Word and Truth. Dressing in the full armor of God, we battle in the spiritual with prayers of intercession. Equipped with endurance, we sit with our sister in the presence of God, bringing reassurance that God’s Light prevails and His love is everlasting. With God’s guidance, let’s help drown out the darkness! Let’s do it together!

Prayer: Lord, You are the Light of the World! You shine through the darkness, bringing hope, comfort, and encouragement to us as we face the challenges of life. May we reach our sisters in Christ with outstretched arms, embracing them with Your love, and battling in the spiritual on their behalf. We pray for discernment as we lift their needs in prayer. Drive out the darkness and restore them to You. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
