… yet because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs. And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.  Luke 11:5-13 (full passage)

Persistence. This passage illustrates boldness and determination. The homeowner hears a knock in the middle of the night. Then another knock, followed by another. The one at the door is determined to get what he wants and is not willing to back off. He continues to beat on the door in desperation.

Bold persistence is how we need to approach the throne of God. Asking, seeking, knocking… this is not an example of a spoiled child throwing a tantrum until he or she finally gets their way. No, this is a child of God yearning for the Holy Spirit and longing to align with God’s desires, His purpose, His calling. This child will not back down until the door to faith is opened and they can abide with the Lord.

We are those children of God. Often, we take a relaxed approach to our faith, waiting to be spoon-fed the morsels that somewhat sustain us, but do not nurture us to grow. We surround ourselves with the noise of this world, distractions that keep us at bay from what God desires for us. It is easy, comfortable. But what if you were challenged to step into a holistic transformation, impacting the world for God, being consumed with the desire to please Him? Would you be willing to break through a barrier to attain it? Would you boldly beat on a door until your persistence revealed your faithfulness and opened the door to a life in Christ?

You were meant for more. Are you ready to live in bold persistence, pursuing God with your life? Let’s be persistent together!

Prayer: Lord, You are our loving, heavenly Father. You provide as we need. We boldly ask you to answer our persistent knocks as we seek You in all areas of our lives. We pray that you grant us your insight as we read your Word. Renew the Holy Spirit within us. May you stir in us the desire to know Your presence in our lives as we grow in our faith in You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
